Data File Description: These data were collected to assist in the preparation of an original research article for the Journal of Business and Finance Librarianship. The article sought to provide a fundamental understanding of the current data sharing trends within business research journals, as evidenced by the journalÕs guidelines for article submission.  Data collected include journal title, submission guidelines URL, journal publisher, Data Sharing Mark, Recommended Sharing Method, Reproducibility or analogous concept Mark, Open Access Mark, Data Sharing Policy, Research Data Policy, and Data Availability Statement. 

Data File Format: Data is a comma-separated text file, readable in most text editors, as well as many commonly used spreadsheet applications.

Methodological Information

Methods: The list of journal titles includes all titles in the ÔBusinessÕ category of journals in Clarivate AnalyticsÕ Journal Citation Reports.  For each title, the investigators examined the Guidelines for Submission for authors submitting articles to the journal and evaluated the guidelines against a rubric that was developed for this study.  

Quality Assurance: A subsample of six journals was evaluated by both investigators individually, and any differences in scoring were discussed and reconciled.  This was done to provide a degree of internal validity.  The remaining 140 titles were then split between the two investigators and assessed individually.

      Journal_Publisher:  Publisher of the journal
Publisher_Coded:  Each of the ÔBig 6Õ publishers (Elsever, Emerald, Sage, Springer, Tayler & Francis, Wiley) were coded 1-6, and all other publishers were coded as 7.
Data_Sharing_Mark:  Ordinal scale of the language the journals use to either encourage or require data sharing as a prerequisite for submission, where
      	1=No mention
      2=Mentioned indirectly
      3=Explicitly encouraged/addressed, but not required. 
4=Required but, no explicit statement regarding effect on publication/editorial decision
      5=Required as condition of publication, barring exceptions
      Journal_Access_Mark: Binary categorical variable where
      	1=Journal is Gold Open Access
      	0=Journal is Not Gold Open Access
Recommended_Sharing_Method: Nominal variable that measures the methods by which data are recommended to be shared, where
	1=Unspecified
      2=Multiple methods equally recommended
